    Clinical Nurse's Aide (CNA) with Senior Fitness Specialization

    The Clinical Nursing Aid (CNA) with Fitness course prepares students to become a CNA and begin their career path in Long Term Care or an Assisted Living facility. This course is designed to provide students with the complete healthcare knowledge base necessary to work in an entry level position in a facility. The course includes topics not only related to working as a nurse's aid, but emphasize's senior fitness. Students do not receive certification simply by taking this course: they must sit for their state’s certification exam. Each student must also complete the clinical hour requirements for his/her particular state, as well as obtain a criminal background check, CPR certification, TB testing, and other screenings as required by his/her state.

    Module 1 - Clinical Nurse's Aid:
    • Laws and regulations affecting the roles and responsibilities of the healthcare assistant
    • Communication and technical skills that recognize individual, cultural, and religious diversity
    • Procedures and techniques to promote infection control and prevent disease
    • Safety and emergency procedures
    • Body systems, basic anatomy, common disease processes, and the aging process
    • Vital signs and other body measurements
    • Principles and skills of restorative nursing (using proper body mechanics)
    • Elements of a client’s physical environment and the client’s interaction with that environment
    • Proper procedures and techniques used for providing personal care to clients, including ADLs, bathing, skin care, nutrition and feeding, elimination, range of motion, positioning, and mobility
    • Psychosocial characteristics of all clients, including those with impairments
    • Delivering sensitive care to the dying client and client’s family
    • How to respect client and client’s family rights and promote client independence, regardless of race, religion, life-style, sexual preference, disease process, or ability to pay

    Module 3 - Exercise and Aging for Special Populations
    • Exercise Recommendations and Guidelines for Apparently Healthy Older Adults
    • Exercise Recommendations and Guidelines for Chronic Diseases and Conditions
    • Principles of Cardiovascular, Resistance Exercise and Flexibility for Older Adults
    • Principles of Functional Exercise, Balance, Mobility, and Water Training for Older Adults
    • Designing Exercise Programs for Apparently Healthy Older Adults

    Module 4 - Designing Older Adult Exercise Programs
    • Screening, Health Assessment and Fitness Testing
    • Cardiovascular and Metabolic Chronic Disease Considerations for Exercise Programs
